Flax Seed
Flax seed is a plant based substitute in baking recipes.

Flax Seed comes from the Flax plant which is an annual herb.
Each tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains about 1.8 grams of plant omega-3s.
High antioxidant qualities.
Soluble and insoluble fiber.
I buy flax seed in bulk and mill it in my blender and store it in the refrigerator. I use the ground flax seed for flax eggs. Whenever a recipe calls for an egg, I simply substitute a flax egg if I feel the egg is actually warranted. Flax eggs should only be substituted when the egg is IN the recipe (meatloaf, crab cakes, baked goods); never to stand alone as a fried egg for example.
1 egg = 1 Tbsp ground flax seed and 3 Tbsp hot(ish) tap water. Whisk and let sit for a couple minutes. Should be gelatinous, like an egg. Simply add to recipe as you would an egg.
